Behind the Scents: March Edition

It's a bright and sunny late winter day here in Chicago, and with spring right around the corner, there are already native perennial sprouts coming out of the ground. 

Lately, I've been putting a lot of focus on seed starting at it's the time of year, and I was able to snag some new ornamentals that I think will look really cool in the garden this year. I love these annuals because they won't disrupt the native ecosystem the same way non-native perennials can, and they should give me quite the pop of color when the time comes!

Here's what else I'm planning on putting in the garden this year: three varieties of basil, mint (It just keeps coming back...damn runners!), strawberries, garlic planted last fall, thyme, sage, eggplant, habanero, habanada, banana peppers, cherry peppers, and as many tomatoes as I can humanly fit in one bed! If I can get some beets, peas, and radishes going in this cooler season, I'll definitely try, but I'll tell ya that I've never had any real success with beets and I've had tepid success with peas. I just don't start them early enough :)

CURRENT OBSESSION

With the release of the Hinoki + Fern collection, I've been really digging my heels into this fragrance. I absolutely LOVE it. I've been putting more intent into my routine, and because our body care and home good products are all about elevating the ordinary, bringing revolutionary fragrance to your everyday routine all while being eco-friendly and certified cruelty free (new!), I've been thinking about each step in order to create a small universe of aroma that evolves as I go through my routine.

I've been starting with the Agave + Salted Peel Soy Wax Candle, filling my bathroom with green, salty, and woody fragrance. After about 10 minutes or so, I turn my shower on and step in, using the Sequoia + Wild Sage Bar Soap to wash, and the Hinoki + Fern Hand and Body Wash to shave. I've then been finishing up with the Bourbon Botanical Body Oil because I love the grounding nature of that scent; it helps keep me mellow as a slide into my day. And if I work it into my cuticles, I can smell hints of it through the day as I grab pens, adjust my glasses, and move my hands in front of my face. 

I guess I love fragrance...:)
