IT'S OFFICIALLY SUMMER, Y'ALL

Summer is by far my favorite season (although early spring and fall definitely have a place in my heart), and while the days moving forward become slightly shorter through the fall, there is still so much summer fun to be had. So far this season, I've spent just about every weekend either hanging out with friends, gardening, and believe it or not, planning our fall and holiday releases! Holiday planning needs to start fairly early in the year, and it's SO strange to think about holiday scents when the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and you're actively scratching mosquito bites! Wanna see what I'm vibing for summer? Check out my summer picks.

THE MAKING OF RAINBOW BAR SOAP

soap distillery's rainbow bar soap

The one question I get about our Rainbow bar soap every single year is why we don't carry it all year long. I GET it. One customer even challenged me: "we're prideful all year long...it'd be nice to be acknowledged outside of June."

That cut me deeper than I let her know. Because as a black business owner, I understand the feeling of being ignored or treated poorly BECAUSE of who I am, and only being acknowledged for achievements once in a while.

What I told her, and what she eventually understood, was that this soap is truly a labor of love, and if we sold it all year 'round, we'd have to sell it for 3-4 times the cost to keep up with labor rates with regard to how this soap has to be made.

For those who've never made soap before, each layer of this soap has to be poured as if it is its own individual bar.  And then the part that's crazy tricky is that the layer poured on time needs to be poured with the precise amount of time that allows it to stick to the previous layer...too late, and the layers separate. Too soon, and the layers break through when being poured. Yep, that means that this soap on average takes roughly FOUR TIMES AS LONG TO MAKE AS EVERY OTHER SOAP WE SELL FOR THE SAME COST. 😮

See what I mean when I say labor of love? Put some respect on Rainbow Soap's name! lol

So, this is why it's special, just like every person reading this and supporting my little company through everything, including the donation for this soap which is going to Brave Space Alliance on Chicago's south side.

Snag a bar while you can; we've got about half a batch left!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

SCENT OF THE MONTH

It's officially summer and to kick it off, our scent of the month is Sunshine + Coconut Nectar! The scent profile is milky, floral, and citrusy, with top notes of lemon peel, mango fruit, and grapefruit juice, middle notes of peach, lemon verbena, and powder, and bottom notes of coconut milk, coconut husk, and saffron.

If you could turn the summer sun into a drink, this is what it would smell like - probably. Inspired by days spent sunbathing, tropical summer fruits, and flowers in full bloom bathed in golden light, this fragrance encapsulates the summer experience.

It kinda smells like a tropical smoothie to me which is SO delicious! Have you ever been to Jamba Juice? It honestly smells like a mango coconut smoothie 🤤

CATCH ME AROUND TOWN!

Summer also happens to be outdoor event season! If you're in Chicago, you can catch me around town at a few different events. This coming weekend, for the first time ever, I'll be vending at the North Shore Artisan Market in Northbrook, IL! I'll be at Village Green Park 10am to 4pm both Saturday and Sunday, June 27th and 28th. Come on through!
